Community When you enter Bay Springs from either direction on Highways 15 and 18, your first thought is that it is much like that of many of the small cities in Mississippi. However, when you have had a chance to see the city during business hours, it would remind you of a city three times its size. With the many industries and businesses that exist in Bay Springs and the number of people employed here, it is no wonder that there seems to be a steady “buzzing” all day long. You feel the warmth and friendliness of the city when visiting the many eateries that there are to choose from. With the many well groomed areas of the city, such as the parks, schools, churches, and recreational areas, one gets a feeling that this is a city with pride. The choices for residents of Bay Springs concerning churches and schools are countless. Public as well as two private schools are available to Bay Springs residents, and nearly every denominational church is represented in Bay Springs and Jasper County. Events Every day is a special day in Bay Springs with pleasant weather, friendly people, and a great home-town atmosphere. But some days are more special than others when the people of Bay Springs get together and plan extra special events like Bay Fest, Jazz In The Grove, holiday programs and parades, homecomings, and community festivals. The events are always festive and fun, but the best thing about the special activities is the spirit of community that the people of Bay Springs share during these events. Jazz In The Grove kicks off the summer with Mississippi’s only outdoor jazz festival in April – offering a day full of great music, food, arts & crafts, and children’s activities. The 4th Friday and Saturday of June is Bay Fest. From helicopter rides to crafts, food, and entertainment, Bay Fest is an experience in which everyone delights and enjoys. During the fall season, local schools have their homecoming weekends, which involve everything from parades to football games and dances. Fall festivals are also held at the area schools. Community spirit is evident throughout the year with local churches performing wonderful Christmas cantatas, special programs for Easter, and community Thanksgiving and Easter services. Recreation The city of Bay Springs has two parks for public use. The city park, located across from the City Hall, features walking paths, a playground, and a gazebo. Smith Park, located downtown, houses a beautiful fountain and pavilion for local events. The city also has two softball fields and a little league complex composed of three fields. Bay Springs Country Club – This private club offers a nine hole golf course, swimming pool, fishing, tennis, and other social activities for members and guests. Beinville National Forest – In northwest Jasper County, Bienville National Forest offers hunting, hiking, nature study, and scenic drives. Lake Claude Bennett – A 71 acre state fishing lake near Paulding, Lake Claude Bennett offers fishing, swimming, skiing, hiking, and camping. |
