Government

First incorporated as a town on March 10, 1904, the community continued to grow and expand until it reached city status with the latest annexation on December 31, 1996. The community had a recorded population of 43 in 1900, more than 1,000 residents six years later, and the current population (1990 Census, plus annexation) is 2,106. The city now governs an area of 14.91 square miles, providing its citizens with first-class services.

Since its beginning, the City of Bay Springs has been governed under the Mayor-Alderman form of government. This method of local government, also known as the "strong Mayor" form of government, is the most common form for the state's Code Charter cities.
